Rathdrum
The pleasant town of Rathdrum is situated on the western side of the Avonmore Valley. Upon reaching the top of the station approach road turn left and pass the Garda station to access the town.
Avondale House and forest park is around 1.5km from the railway station. Upon reaching the top of the station approach road turn left and pass the Garda (police) station. Continue to the next junction, turn left and continue for another 1km or so. There is a footpath part of the way.

Rathdrum railway station:
Platform 1 is normally used and is accessed via a ramp. Platform 2 can only be accessed via the footbridge. Both platforms have waiting shelters. The station is overlooked by the former railway hotel (out of bounds). The station has a small car park (paid for parking).

The innovative Wicklow Way bus service provides two routes serving Rathdrum railway station as follows:
* Rathdrum railway station - Laragh - Glendalough (Visitor Centre) - Glenmalure Lodge Hotel (Drumgoff).
* Rathdrum railway station - Iron Bridge - Tinahely Village - Curravanish (Wicklow Way).
The timetable is designed to connect with certain trains to/from Dublin. Please note this bus service must be booked in advance.
Both routes also serve Rathdrum (Market Square).

Bus Éireann local route 133 has its nearest stops around a five minute walk away adjacent to the junction leading to the town centre (upon reaching the top of the station approach road turn left and pass the Garda station).
This bus route provides public transport access to several scenic places south of Rathdrum such as The Meetings, Avoca or Woodenbridge. Going north it allows access to Glenealy and Rathnew.
